Local artist presents artwork to Fairfield Preschool during community event
The community was invited to come tour Foundations Early Learning and Family Center and attend an art dedication by the Bluff Park Art Association on Tuesday, April 19 at 9:30am. Foundations is a faith based pre-school that serves families and children. It is located at 7000 Grasselli Road in Fairfield inside the Forest Hills Community Development Center. Local artist and board member of the Bluff Park Art Association, Judith Rogers, presented her piece entitled “Celebration IV” to the students and guests. Mrs. Rogers spoke to the kids about what it meant to be an artist and she walked the students through how she created the piece. The kids then were able to create their own works of art with the help of Mrs. Rogers and a number of other Bluff Park Art Association and Foundations board members. Mrs. Rogers piece will remain on display at Foundations for at least two years.
The board members and guests toured the Foundations Early Learning and Family center where they learned about future expansion of the program, that includes adding addition classes. Foundations was started three years ago to help fill a gap in early childhood education that existed in Fairfield. The program combines a strong academic curriculum with a Christian foundation. The program also includes every other week parent involvement meetings that cover a large range of topics. The program has been extremely successful and continues to grow. Foundations is funded mainly through donations and through a state of Alabama grant.
Foundations board member Tommy Sanderson, who is also president of the Bluff Park Art Association says, “I am so excited to be able to connect these two dynamic organizations. Being able to see the kid’s reactions to the art work was truly priceless. The kids did a great job on their art projects and the volunteers had a wonderful time interacting with the kids. I think it was a huge success and we hope to have more cross-over events like this in the future. It was so nice to see everyone excited about art and to be able to spread the word about what Foundations is doing with Christian education for these kids”
